Issue:
Poweroff.exe is shutting machines down while the user is logged in. A dialogue box is displayed "Countdown to system shutdown has begun. Click cancel to discontinue" and are given a 10 second countdown.
The ServiceHost.log located in C:\Program Files\LANDesk\Shared Files will show the following text:
Wed, 10 Sept 2008 10:52:36 2388: Exec: Exec: Launch request <"poweroff.exe" 10> (sync 0, timeout 300)
Cause:
It is a common misconception that this is an issue with a Power Management task gone awry. This is not a specific Power Management issue. This is a Scheduled Task defect.
This is due to a Scheduled Task that has the option "Wake up devices - not applicable to unmanaged devices" being checked in a scheduled task in combination with a defect that has been resolved with the latest Management Suite Service Pack. The defect results in the wrong device being shut down if the target device is off and a non-targeted device is on that has the same IP address.
Resolution:
This issue is resolved by installing a patch or Service Pack.
For LDMS 8.8 SP2: Install SWD-1601288.2
This patch is included in LDMS 8.8 Service Pack 3.
